What Scrapbooking is all about....

Working with truly old photos can make me a little nervous, especially when they are not mine! I have the wonderful opportunity to take my grandmother's photos from when she was first married and my dad as a child and make an album. My main purpose is to record important memories, some stories I haven't even heard before. My grandmother's brother passed recently and this brought her back to Hawsville, KY where she grew up. I wasn't able to go to the funeral, but at a recent family gathering she told me the story of when my granddad proposed to her and the actual spot. My uncle took some pictures of her at the "outlook," where it all happened over 50 years ago. I can't imagine the rush of emotions that went through her being at that same spot, especially considering my granddad passed away right before Kylie was born.

The first task is to get all of the photos out of those terrible sticky albums! They are definitely not acid free and will ruin those precious photos. The scraper that comes in the cricut accessory kit works great to get them out without ripping the photos. So check around in your family because you probably have really important photos in danger of deteriorating!

Sarsaparilla Layout

This layout is perfect for your girl or boy! Colors are Desert Sand, Twilight, Barn Red, and Black. I used the layout "Grand Finale" from the Imagine book. The layout called for 3 3x3 photos, but I printed mine out in the 3.5x5 size and trimmed them slightly. The larger photo is a 5x7. I used the new Western Flourishes and the Out West stamp sets. I used the new Dimensional Elements Monograms for some of the letters. The rest were cut with the Cricut. I then used one of the new tarnishing techniques for the different coloring. For the journaling, I used the Expressive Fonts CD-Inkling type. I love doing my journaling this way so that I can make sure I spell everything right and proofread!

The Sashi Fairy!

My little girl has finally given up her paci!!! I kept thinking she would just give it up on her own, but I think I would be waiting a long time. We had been reading "Bye Bye Pacifiers" every night for awhile per her request. One Saturday morning she woke up and said that she wanted to give her sashis (that's what she calls them!) to the fairies for new babies. I didn't ask her twice! We got an envelope and went about the house to find all of them. I think we gathered about 10! We addressed it to the fairies from Kylie and then off to the mailbox we went. Such a big moment for her! I was almost sad to give them up too! They are pretty convenient when she's screaming! When we got back to the house, she looked out the glass door and decided that she wanted them back. I had to be firm and tell her that the fairies had them. She didn't have big melt downs like I thought she would. She asked for them several times over the next few days, but she accepted our answers that they were gone. I just hope we didn't miss any of them around the house! The fairies brought her a wonderful surprise the next morning and a thank you note covered in glitter. How nice to still believe in real magic!

Dancing Moves!

Scott has gotten Kylie addicted to You Tube when we first told her that we were going to Disney World. Now they look up songs from movies she watches. One that she requests almost daily is the "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." This version has two hilarious cartoon characters dancing and Kylie can imitate their moves pretty well. Blake is really on the move and pulling up on stuff. As you can see from the video, he's starting to perfect his dance moves too!

Happy Bday Jennifer!

We celebrated my sister's bday at my mom's house. Kylie absolutely loves birthday parties since she's discovered that each time there is usually birthday cake! She likes to sing the altered bday song from the movie "Madagascar." First time posting a video so we shall see if it works!

Magic Moments Promo Layout

I finished this layout in record time for me. I absolutely love this kit! I'm going to make a goal this week to do at least one of these layouts from the kit each night. I'll try to post them as I finish them. I think there might be hope for me to get some pages finished using this easy kit! This is the last month to get the kit so let me know when you want me to order yours!
